5/31/2017 0 Comments Shrushti's New HairWhen Srushti was less than a year old, she was accidentally pushed into a fire while playing with her brother. Shrusti then spent months in a hospital treating the burns that covered her face and arms. Shrusti and her family came to CRHP’s surgical camp after hearing about it from another member of their village. Before this surgery, Shrusti’s father was worried about her marriage and future prospects because of the burns covering her face and arms. This past February, surgeons worked on her right hand to give her more finger mobility so that she can now grab and hold objects. Now Srushti’s father says that he hopes for her to continue far in her schooling so that Shrusti can be educated, independent, and free from concerns about relying on marriage for a good future. Her father proudly said that, “If Srushti is given an allowance, she buys pens and books instead of candy.”
On her last visit to Julia Hospital, Srushti got her first wig, which the nurses braided for her. She spent the rest of the day playing with her new hair. Shrushit's confidence has grown so much since she arrived at the hospital for the first time in February. In the beginning, she was incredibly shy, hiding behind her parents whenever approached. Now, she runs around the hospital interacting with staff and visitors alike.
